Incident Command Systems (ICS) for Airports

The formal adoption by the Federal government of the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System, has put airports into a difficult position. ICS was built upon a wild land fire fighting structure, making it difficult to use in other environments, particularly at an airport. The course, ICS for Airports takes the principles of ICS and shows how these can integrate into the Airport Emergency Plan, effectively making ICS fit airports, instead of airports having to fit into ICS. FEMA has not developed an ICS for Airports as airports are too unique and don’t fit well into existing emergency management structures. ICS for Airports includes exercises and case studies, plus extensive facilitation to help an airport better integrate the ICS structure so that it becomes an asset in emergency management, rather than just an administrative exercise. Offered as Live Classroom Training.

Incident Report Writing Workshop

Incident report writing is a critical skill to have as an airport operations officer, a security officer, a police officer or anyone handling a crisis or emergency at the airport. Incident reports form the basis for a narrative of what occurred during a particular event. Many of these reports, such as aircraft accident or incident reports, and wildlife strike database reports, must be formally filed per the aviation industry requirements. Along with your incident reports, your incident scene investigation and interview notes and logbook entries become documents that can be subpoenaed in court. In addition, you may asked to give testimony soon after the event, or possibly years later. The only frame of reference you have to prepare will be what you put into your report.
